On 17 August 2014, there was a special event in my hometown. The mayor held a big competition of Pinang climbing. This competition was held to celebrate the independence day. Early in the morning, many people had gathered in the town square. In the middle, there were exactly one hundred poles. Various prizes, such as t-shirts, radios, pans, and bicycles were hung on the top of each pole. At 10 o’clock, the competition started. Unlike the usual Pinang climbing competition in which the competitors work individually, this time the competition worked in teams. There were ten teams in this event. They would compete to get the prizes as many as they could. The crowd enjoyed watching the teams struggle to reach the top. They yelled and gave applause every time a succesfull team grabbed the prizes and dropped them down. It was not an easy job to do because the pole was so slippery. Each pole had been covered with grease. However, all teams had good strategies. At about 12 a.m. nearly all the prizes had been taken away. It was an exciting experience. I myself cheered my favourite team so loudly that I nearly lost my voices. |

The black widow spider is an extremely poisonous spider of North and South America. One the female one is dangerous. The bite of the male is generally harmless. Although it is greatly feared, it is not aggressive and generally bites only to defend it self. This kind of spider has long legs and smooth, black bodies. The female spider is about twice as big as the male. It has round, shiny, black abdomen, with a distinctive mark shaped like an hourglass on the underside. The male spider is only about half as long as females and has more slender body. It has four pairs of red dots along the sides of the abdomen. It is rarely seen and is harmless. Black widow spiders primarily eat insects that they trap in their webs. They kill their prey by biting and then inserting their venom.
